Mr. Sugiyama’s favorite lure
Hammer-head G-cup low light orange is a great lure for the afternoon twilight.

A new item from Hammer-head, Faube A-cup was tested for the final field test.
After casting towards birds feeding on the surface, the lure soon produced answers.

A new record for Mr. Sugiyama.148cm, 52kg GT.

Catching 4 GTs in 1 fishing trip, not to mention the 52kg GT by Mr. Sugiyama, is an amazing thing.
The daily work has paid off. But the achievement cannot be put into simple words.
Congratulations Mr. Sugiyama.

2005/05/21〜23 TOKARA GTSP 2
The second Tokara GT special tour was held on the 21st to 23rd May 2005.

I got the first bite of the year on the afternoon of the first day.
As I felt that the hook setting was shallow due to my mis-timed hook up,
I continued to fight the fish with the help of Captain Kudo’s fine technique.

After a 4 minute careful flight, the massive GT surfaced.

The GT with the G-cup in its mouth.
As I had imagined, the rear hook was set only in 5mm of the outer side of the lip of the GT,
with the front hook only on the top lip.

There is only a short window of time when hooking up.
If this is missed and one keeps on trying to hook up afterwards, it will result in loosing the fish by ripping the flesh.
That’s why when one mis-hooks the fish, s/he  must take caution when fighting the fish.

I was able to land the fish because the front hook which was only on the top lip hardly streched.
I was again thankful for the Decoy hooks strength.

It was 157cm 54kg GT.
It had been a year and a half since my meeting with a GT which is 50kg + in Tokara.
By focusing my tackle balance and choosing proper lures on the super big GTs, it has allowed me to land super size GTs.
In addition, the conditions of Tokara this year are amazingly good,  compared to the previous years.

The GT did a couple of laps on the surface and successfully descended into the deep waters of Tokara.

Soon after, Mr. Sugiyama who is on fire, hooked one up.

Another vibrator. This was 21kg.

Tokara this season I believe will be amazing.
Although I have only had one bite, there have been numerous bits from massive GTs during our 2 trips.
The GT which was unfortunately lost by Mr. Tyujyou from line breakage, was ridiculously big.
I have been saying this over and over every year, but I am hoping to catch the super size moster GT this year.
The Tokara GT special tour this year will be hot!!
