2005.6/27〜7/3 SHORE GT Yoshio Maruyama

I went to Tokara to test the E-cup HATO-SP.

As this GT fishing will be from shore, I board the ferry to get to the islands.

After arriving at the island, I soon find out that I am the only angler there.

A little difficult to see, but the island is surrounded by the reef.

2 hours after starting on the first day, I got my first bite. It was a Blue-fin travally.

After a while, the fish that I hooked up was the bait fish of this season,
the Flying-fish
There weren’t as many bait fish compared to my previous trip,
so I didn’t get a bite for the next 4 hours

I finally get a bite, but it was a mini-travally.
This was the end of the first day

2 hours after starting on the 2nd day, I land a 10kg + GT.
After I landed another GT which was about 15kg, I was thinking that there were only small ones tonight,
when the Islander hooked one up.

It looked like the islander, Mr. Yada was having a little difficulty,
but once surfaced I soon find out why. Exactly 30kg GT.
A new record for him. Congratulations.

After he landed this fish, he was satisfied, and headed back home….

I was alone again for a quiet 2 hours, but the bait fish started to get restless.
I immediately land a 20kg and a bit GT.
To land a fish alone with the specially designed net would be up to this size.
After releasing the fish, a consecutive hook up.

As I felt that the fish was somewhat bigger than the previous one,
I called the owner of the motel with my cell-phone during the fight to come help land the fish.

The successfully landed GT was a Black 32kg GT. It had a massive tail.

Another Black GT.

The fish that surfaced with the E-cup deep in its mouth was

The average size for this trip.

A massive explosive bit was from a 20kg+ GT.

GT festival!

Another 20kg GT caught on the settings of 2×8/0 hooks on the E-cup

An explosion on the surface with a deafening bite sound in the quiet waters, usually means a pretty nice size.
As expected it was a nice size fish which fought to the very end.

Successfully landed.

Actual measurements; 144cm 40kg.

Another picture! It was the biggest for this trip.

A 20kg + GT landed straight afterwards.

The bait fish had decreased dramatically on the 3rd day, with little sign of fish.
After this fish, a couple of Dogtooth tunas fought over my lure and cut the line while at it.

As I lost my lure, I cast the G-cup.
A 20kg GT caught only after 2 casts.

successfully released.

slight recovery on the 4th day.

10kg GT caught on the C-cup.

The starting and ending of the 4 days was with the Blue-fin travally.

3 other anglers joined me on the 5th day.
As I had stiff muscles from the number of fish caught and landed with the special net,
I let the new comers take over.

Soon after, Mr. Inenaga, a friend of mine landed a 42kg GT on his first day of arrival.
Congratulations. The final day ended with this 1 fish.

I say good bye to the Islanders and wish the new-comers the best of luck

During this trip, I predominantly tested the E-cup HATO-SP
which had been modified since the previous trip. It is looking good!!

I would like to give it a few more modifications, and hope to release it next season.
